Public Records Request

Many of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) records are available to the public under the California Public Records Act (California Government Code § 6250 et seq.). and the CSU Auxiliary Organizations Transparency and Accountability Act (SB 8), and allows members of the public to inspect and receive copies of public documents maintained by CSUDH and its auxiliary organizations.

Request Requirements

  • Requests for public records must reasonably describe identifiable records and must be focused, specific, and clear enough for the University to conduct a reasonable search for the records sought.
  • Where a request is not specific or focused, CSUDH will assist in identifying available records.
  • Requests may not interfere with the business operations of the university, including any and all university policies. Records that are reasonably required by CSUDH personnel in the performance of their duties may not be available for inspection at certain times.
  • May be oral or in writing. For purposes of clarity, CSUDH encourages written requests.

Request Fulfillment

  • Within 10 days of receiving your request, CSUDH will notify requestor if records are available, if so, whether any of those records are disclosable (i.e., required to be made available to you by law).
  • CSUDH will conduct a reasonable search for the requested records. The records will be made available for inspection during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Records may not be destroyed, altered, or removed from CSUDH. CSUDH may have university personnel present during an inspection to safeguard the records.
  • The records themselves will be made available to you within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Please be aware that the law exempts certain records from public disclosure. CSUDH may redact purely personal and private information from public records
  • The California Public Records Act does not require the University to answer questions, create records, or provide records that do not exist at the time of the request.

Cost

CSUDH may charge the direct cost of duplication for copies of public records, $0.20 per page (California Government Code §6253(b)).  In addition, the University may charge the full cost to compile electronic data, extract information from an electronic record, or undertake computer programming to satisfy a request (California Government Code §6253.9(b)).
