Tony Dodero has been the public information officer/public affairs manager for the City of Costa Mesa since August of 2015. He currently manages media relations and oversees the City’s social media channels, CMTV video operations, the City’s website and graphic and print shop operations.
Before joining the City of Costa Mesa, he had a number of communication roles including the Director of Marketing and Communications for the afterschool provider THINK Together and the manager of internal communications for a private education corporation and communication consultant for private K-8 schools.
Prior to working in public relations, Dodero was employed in the news media as an editor, reporter and writer for more than 20 years. He worked as an editor for the Long Beach Press Telegram and the Los Angeles Times Community News Division, where he was Director of News and Online and the Editorial Director of the Daily Pilot and seven other newspapers. He launched and managed the websites for the Times’ community papers. In addition, his freelance work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The Orange County Register, OC Metro and OC Family.
Dodero has also been an adjunct communication faculty member at California State University Dominguez Hills since January of 2011. Prior to that, he taught journalism courses at Orange Coast College for 10 years.
Dodero earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Cal State University Long Beach and his Master of Science degree in communication from Lasell University. He is currently a member of the California Association of Public Information Officials.
