CSUDH’s Toros Teach LA is an innovative program that addresses the severe shortage of early childhood educators by preparing, graduating, and placing culturally competent, racially diverse teachers and leaders in schools across the LA region.
The program comprises the Early Childhood Excellence and Black Educator Excellence initiatives, through which we build equity-embedded credentials, improve graduation rates of underrepresented students in teacher credential programs, and enable educators to forge successful teaching careers with less debt and high career retention.
The Early Childhood Excellence initiative offers CSUDH students the new PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Instruction Credential. To address the need of new teachers, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) has approved a new teaching credential to teach children in pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade. The Black Educator Excellence initiative addresses the importance of teachers sharing their lived learning experiences and build a sustainable pathway to a rewarding teaching career. To learn more, click on the Black Educator Excellence below.
TTLA is committed to addressing the teacher shortage at under-resourced schools in the Los Angeles region. TTLA will provide financial support through a special scholarship to CSUDH’s aspiring teachers and counselors! TTLA Scholarships are available for students aspiring to work with children at under-resourced schools in the Los Angeles region.
The 2024-2025 scholarship applications will be available at the end of the fall semester.

Nearly 150 future educators will soon be ready to join the teaching ranks now that California State University, Dominguez Hills has awarded them almost a million dollars in scholarship funds through the university’s new Toros Teach LA program.
