Upward Bound Math-Science provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in higher education pursuits.

Upward Bound Math-Science serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound Math-Science is to increase the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

"Being in the Upward Bound Math-Science program for four years during high school was a privilege and honor for me. As a student at UC San Diego, I realize that I have gained a lot through my experience with the program. This program has inspired me to work hard and strive for my dreams. I have been working hard by getting good grades, being involved, and conducting my own research project at UCSD. I am very thankful for having been a part of the program. I had the pleasure of giving back to the TRIO community by participating in UCSD's TRIO program during the summer of 2018. It was the best experience I could ever dream of!"

Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and African American Studies (Pre-Law),
Minor in Education

"TRIO has helped me in ways that I can't even articulate. Before coming to Cal, I was nervous and had feelings of Imposter Syndrome, but was immediately reminded of the supportive community I come from, the lessons I learned while a part of TRIO, and what it took to successfully graduate from the program. TRIO sent me off to college with the necessary tools and information to be successful as a first-generation student from the inner city of Los Angeles. TRIO was my family, and will continue to remain as my go-to whenever I find myself in need of support."

"TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science has made it possible for me to attend a four-year university. Without the support of my peers, teachers, and mentors, I wouldn't have been able to do it on my own. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities that this program has opened up for me."
